Great post Jenise…I’m saving this one in my folder of good advice for our next event to remind our speakers. I especially like that you remind us about taking questions from the audience. Why is it that every presentation I go to the speaker forgets this. Half-way through there answer everyone is chiming in “can you repeat the question?”
Microphones are audio visual tools used to amplify voices and do not replace good vocal expression. They won’t make dull speakers sound interesting-only louder. Before presenting, learn the proper techniques of good microphone use.
Agreed. Varying pitch, intonation, volume & rhythm and making sure you have proper posture, can definitely add to the quality of your presentation.
Thank you Traci! Yup. “Can you repeat the question?” is a popular song at events.
in many cases a true pre- sound check is not possible. in those cases i will do a sound check right at the top, i.e., I will ask the audience if they can hear me, too loud, etc. actually endears me to them as already i am showing concern for their comfort. – jl
Thanks for the tip, Justin!
